Team Information

Thanks for participating in the CDBS 2011 Dragon Boat Race & Festival. We really appreciate your support and hope to put on a fun day of racing for you.

Here is some important information about the Festival.

1. Race Grid - The preliminary race grid and Sunday progression is now available (Click here) for latest updated verison.

2. Team Tents – Team tent assignment is available (Click here). Please check to make sure you have a home.

3. Parking – The two closest lots to the Canoe Club will be closed and reserved for vendors, festival organizers, the bus shuttle and VIPs. We will have parking control so please don’t try and park there as you will be turned away without a parking pass. The rest of the park is open to the public and is first come first served. Each team will be allowed 1 vehicle to drop off provisions for your team but you will not be allowed to stay and park.

Note: The City has informed us that Crowchild Trail leading into the Park will likely remain closed during the festival weekend due to construction. Parking authority will be onsite during the festival, please DO NOT park on the grass, you will be ticketed.

4. Bus Shuttle – As mentioned previously, we have set up a bus shuttle from Mount Royal University to the site. You have to pay the standard rider fee but parking is free of charge at Mount Royal University. This is in an effort to reduce parking issues at the Park and surrounding area residents. We strongly encourage you to utilize this bus service.

5. Water – Each registered team will given two (2) flats of water for the weekend to keep you paddlers well hydrated. Water can be picked up at the registration tent on Saturday morning.

6. SteerspersonAll steersperson must be registered! You will be given a wristband for the weekend which can be picked up during the Team Captains Meeting (see below). Please find attached to this email a Steersperson Registration Form (attached). Unless you have contacted us requesting a steersperson for the weekend, we require you to submit this form. You can designate more than one steersperson on your team if necessary. You will only be given a wristband if you have submitted the information on this form. No Wristband = No Steering! Please bring completed form to Team Captains Meeting.

7. Team Rosters and WaiversAll teams must submit a team roster for the participants who are racing in the festival. For teams who practice with the Calgary Dragon Boat Society (CDBS) on North Glenmore, you DO NOT need to resubmit waivers unless you have a brand new paddler who has not previously signed one for practice. All other teams who don’t practice with the CDBS needs to submit waivers and rosters for each team. Waivers and Roster forms can be found here:

http://www.chinatowncalgary.com/dragonboat/Practices.html.

All of this must be handed in at the Team Captains Meeting.

9. Corporate Challenge Race – We are now up to 7 corporate teams. The fastest 5 corporate teams will be competing in a special challenge after round 1 of racing on Saturday Aug 6th. Click here to see Race Schedule...

10. Slave Lake Wildfire Relief Charity Race – The Calgary Dragon Boat Society has partnered with Red Cross to raise funds to help Slake Lake Wildfire victims. The participants in this Charity race will be some of our VIPs, community and business partners and some of the volunteers of the festival. Red Cross will have a couple of donation boxes at the festival if you and your team members are feeling charitable. We encourage you to come down to the docks at noon hour on Sunday to cheer on this worthy cause.
