Former Mayor of the City of Calgary Al Duerr agreed as CCCCC’s Special Advisor

According to the new supporters’ list released on May 29 from the co-chairman Ed Tam of the Calgary Chinatown Centennial Celebration Committee (CCCCC), the former Mayor of the City of Calgary, Mr. Al Duerr accepted their invitation as the Committee’s second Special Advisor.
Al Duerr served as the 34th Mayor of Calgary, from October 23, 1989 to October 22, 2001. Before he became the Mayor, he was a city alderman from 1983 to 1989. He served for four terms, but winning his mayoralty previous three terms in massive wins. Al Duerr was extraordinarily popular during his time in the office. His pacifying, administrative mode and easy going personality made him well respected. Since his retirement from the mayoralty, and has mostly avoided political activity but concentrates on his business. Presently, he has business in the province of Guangdong, China. He is married to Kit Chan, and has two children.
Today, he is one of the most remarkable, goodwill and well-known politicians in Calgary Chinese community.
