Events for 2010 Asian Heritage Month

The Event Coordinator of Asian Heritage Foundation Tu Nguyen said, May is the month for promoting Asian Heritage every year. Welcome all of you come to enjoy all the events. Here are the events around Calgary:
1. Find the CanAsian In You Bus Tour
A. First Bus Tour - Sunday, May 2, 2010 @ 1:00PM - 4:45PM
Venue: Meet at the Central Calgary Public Library, then Muslim Mosque, Hindu Mandir and back to the Calgary Public Library.
Transportation: a designated Calgary Transit bus will pick participants up and drop them off at the central Calgary Public Library in downtown.
Description: This annual bus tour will take you on a cultural adventure. Come enjoy story telling, rich history and culture, learn how to tie a sari, try on sari, get a taste of authentic traditional foods/snacks and WIN PRIZES! There will be bus tour guide and dedicated volunteers on the bus and at the event. Enjoy your splash of Asianness.
B. Second Bus Tour - Sunday, May 9, 2010 @ 1:00PM - 4:45PM
Venue: Meet at the Central Calgary Public Library, then Chinese Cultural Centre/Chinatown, Little Saigon Mall and Noodle World Vietnamese Restaurant and back to the Calgary Public Library.
Transportation: a designated Calgary Transit bus will pick participants up and drop them off at the central Calgary Public Library in downtown.
Description: This annual bus tour will take you on another adventure experiencing the oriental cultures. Come enjoy story telling, chinese tea time, see the hidden chinese museum with the terracotta, learn how to make Vietnamese salad rolls, enjoy a performance, taste Vietnamese noodle soups, get a rose for mother's day and WIN PRIZES! There will be bus tour guide and dedicated volunteers on the bus and at the event. Enjoy your splash of Asianness.
C. Third Bus Tour - Sunday, May 16, 2010 @ 1:00PM - 4:45PM
Venue: Meet at the Central Calgary Public Library, then the Japanese Nikkei Cultural Centre, Filipino community, and back to the Calgary Public Library
Transportation: a designated Calgary Transit bus will pick participants up and drop them off at the central Calgary Public Library in downtown
Description: This annual bus tour will take you on a far land of Japan and the Fillipines to experience the various cultural activities and open arms. Come enjoy story telling, learn about the cultures through interactive games, origami making, possible learn how to make sushi, taste authentic foods, and WIN PRIZES! There will be bus tour guide and dedicated volunteers on the bus and at the event. Enjoy your splash of Asianness.

2. Asian Heritage Month Film Festival
A. Title: Mao's Last Dancer
Dates and times: Thursday, May 6, 2010 @ 7:00PM
Venue: Scotiabank Chinook Theater: 6455 MacLeod Trail S.W.
Ticket price: FREE admission - first come first serve basis
Languages: English and Mandarin with English subtitles.
B. Title: One Crazy Ride
Dates and times: Saturday, May 8, 2010 @ 4:30PM
Venue: The Plaza Theater: 1133 Kensington Road N.W.
Ticket: Children 8 & under is FREE, 9 years old and adult have to purchase.
C. Title: All About Dad
Dates and times: Friday, May 14, 2010 @ 7:00PM

3. I HeART YOUTHinASIA
Calgary Artists of Asian Descent from 14 to 18 years old.
May 4, 5, and 6th at 10:30 to 2pm
Lobby of Encor Place - 645 7th Ave SW off train terminal. Light refreshments will be served. Art works will be sold, cash only please. Public is free to come and support Asian Heritage Month. Presented by Asian Heritage Foundation, ImaginASIAN and Trico Homes. This is a YOUTHinASIA production.

3pm to 5pm Preliminaries – 15 Local Crews showcase and compete - top 6 announced.
5pm to 6pm Dinner or Practise Break.
6pm to 7pm Top 6 finalists showcase and compete,
7pm to 9pm Quest Crew performs, announces winner and Meet and Greets Public,
Winner of top 6 will win $300 and have the option of a private LUNCH WITH QUEST CREW the next day.
Special 20 minute performance that night by QUEST CREW plus an hour and half meet and greet after their performance.

5. Asian Heritage Foundation and ACCT-OUT YOUTH THEATRE ( Asian Canadian Calgarian Theatre) presents "Meet the Asians!"

THIS EVENT IS FREE BUT SEATING IS LIMITED
Meet The Asians is a collaborative production workshopped and written by the cast. It is a provocative and fun look at traditional myths and touches on more sensitive subjects like racism and isolation.
The group wrote, rehearsed and put the play together in just 12 rehearsals. Meet the Asians... brings the best of Asian Calgarian young talent to the forefront.
