Funds for Taiwan 88 Disaster handed over to Red Cross

On August 30, a fundraiser was held at the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre (CCCC) for the Taiwan’s typhoon disaster on August 8. The fundraising was organized by the Calgary Reaches Out (CRO), CCCC, Calgary Chinese Community Service Association (CCCSA) and the Taiwan Students Association.

On September 30,  Khin Chew, the English Secretary of Calgary Tsung Tsin Benevolent Association, on behalf of CRO announced, the final count of all donations was sitting at $12,782.00. After all expenses, the total amount was $11,167.00.

When three representatives of the organizers, MLA Wayne Cao, David Tam of CCCSA and Vinh Nhan, handed over the funds to Cassie Francis and Cheryl Ruetz, the staff of the Alberta Red Cross in Calgary on October 14, and the final count of the donation amount was $11,168.11.

Chew said, all of them should feel good that they were able to help in one way or another to those unfortunates in the disaster. He also stated, “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed their efforts into this fundraiser either by volunteering, sponsoring or performing. All your efforts helped make this fundraiser a success.
