‘Go’ is a well known game by its strategic complexity despite its simple rules. It calls “Weiqi” in Chinese. The game is designed for two players – Black and White. It is most popular in East Asia – China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, but has gained some popularity in the western world in recent years. The board game reached the West through Japan, and that’s why it is commonly known by its Japanese name “Go”.
Weiqi originated from ancient China more than 2,500 years ago. In the 3rd century BC, it was already a popular leisure game in China. According to the legend, the origin of the game traced back to the Chinese emperor Yao (2337–2258 BC), who had his counselor Shun designed the game for his son Danzhu as to teach him the discipline, concentration and balance.
