This year on October 1st will be the 60th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). There will be a huge parade to take place in the capital city Beijing; and the entire country will have lots of celebrations. In overseas, most of the Chinese communities are also holding various celebrations recently for this particular event, including Calgary.
On Sunday, September 27th at 11:00 am, the Chinese community held the second part of the celebration -- an unusual parade in Chinatown -- to celebrate this special occasion.
Before the parade to start, the Consul-General of PRC in Calgary Wu Xin-jian and the community leader Dr. K.W. Chang, made a short speech in front of the participants and the public.

The parade was starting from the 3rd Avenue S.E., and it was generally surrounded the entire area of Chinatown, with performances such as dragon dance, lions dance and drum dance. After the parade finished back to the starting point, there were about 30 lions which performed together a group dance, to follow with drum dance, chorus, solo, martial arts, Tai-chi, and other performances.
Starting from September 24 to October 1, the “Arts and Photos Exhibition” is the third part of the celebration. The location of the exhibition is at the City Hall Atrium. The public is cordially invited to enjoy those magnificent art works.
